Lyles and Jaime Corbin own and operate Lyles Corbin Farms in Levy and Gilchrist Counties. The farm began in August 2011 and proudly run a cow/calf operation. Lyles is a third generation cattlemen who has raised cattle since 2011.
Lyles Corbin Farms has implemented BMPs since the beginning of their cattle operation. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Some of the BMPs that have been implemented include limited grazing in sensitive areas, managing fertilizers applied to fields, and control of invasive species. Similar methods include maintaining non-invasive vegetation in water furrows, ditch and canal banks, and on bed “middles, as well as using UF/IFAS recommended fertilizer rates. These practices ensure that their land will remain productive and viable for future generations.
Corbin is a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church and the Florida Cattlemen’s Association. When asked why he believes it is important to protect our environment, Corbin responded, “I want to do my part to secure it for future generations to enjoy.”
