ABOUT CRUZ NURSEY, INC.

Cruz Nursey, Inc. is a family business that has been owned and operated by Zaibunissa and Jose Cruz since December 1993. What started out as just 2-acres is now an 8-acre nursery that produces woody ornamentals and tropical plants in Plant City.

Best Management Practices (BMPs) have been implemented since 2013 to conserve water resources and protect the local groundwater system from fertilizer runoff.

Some of the most effective BMPs implemented have included installing a wobbler-style emitter to reduce overall water use. To reduce nutrient use, a concrete pad and overhead cover has been installed.  This BMP prevents contamination of ground and surface water resources. Testing of well water is regularly completed to protect water quality. Additionally, natural vegetation is planted on a ditch bank to prevent soil erosion.

In regards to leadership, the Cruz’s are proud members and supporters of their local community. These include membership in Farm Bureau, supporters for the annual Strawberry Festival Youth plant sale event, contributors to the Hillsborough County Fair FFA’s annual plant auction and supporters of the Islamic Society Center.

The Cruz family works to conserve water and protect the environment because, to them, it is naturally the right thing to do.

Florida Farm Bureau Federation is proud to award a 2019 CARES designation and sign to Zaibunissa and Jose Cruz, of Cruz Nursery, Inc., for their dedication in being outstanding environmental stewards.
