Davis Angus Farm, Madison County

Archie Davis and his family own and operate Davis Angus Farm in Lee, Florida. The farm was originally owned by Mr. Davis’ father. He purchased the farm from his father in 1973 and proudly produces cattle. Mr. Davis has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm since the early 1990’s. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Davis Angus Farm uses a rotational grazing method that improves pasture longevity, allows for more timely utilization of forage and increases stocking rates. Annual soil samples are taken to ensure the accurate amount of fertilizer and lime are applied to the pastures. Mr. Davis also uses well water for the cattle as a reliable source of water. Mr. Davis is actively involved in his local community, as a past Florida Cattlemen’s Association member and a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau. He and his family attend First Baptist Church of Madison. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Davis responded, “we live here and we have to protect the land we live on.”
