Dog Creek Ranch, Martin County
Don White and his family own and operate Dog Creek Ranch in Martin County. The farm was purchased by Mr. White in 2000. They proudly produce cattle. Mr. White has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm for a decade. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. When purchased, Dog Creek Ranch had not been well managed, but Mr. White restored the land so that cattle could graze. Mr. White has developed a series of manmade ponds along with fresh well water throughout his ranch to help reduce disturbance of the natural wetlands. Mr. White is actively involved in his local community. He is also a part of various Grain & Feed Associations throughout the U.S. and a member of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association. He and his family attend church in Jensen Beach. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, White responded, “my family has always looked for ways to improve any land owned. It has simply become a way of life.”
