Dukes Hay, Inc., Levy County

Brent and Katie Dukes own and operate Dukes Hay, Inc., in Levy and Gilchrist County. Dukes Hay, Inc., proudly produces hay since before 2007. Today the operation has expanded to include grass sprigging/planting, field preparation, spraying of herbicide and pesticides, and custom work for their local dairy. Dukes Hay, Inc., is a family-run business with all members of the family having an active role in the prosperity of the farm. Dukes Hays, Inc. has implemented BMPs for the betterment of the land and their business. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Some of the BMPs that have been implemented include GPS system fertilizing and herbicide and pesticide spraying. These practices ensure that their land will remain productive and viable for future generations. Brent and Katie are active members of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, sponsor school and recreational sports, along with donating to their local livestock/ FFA chapter. When asked what does he enjoy the most about farming, Brent responded, “The memories I have of when I was young helping my dad in the fields, and to see my children help me today learning to appreciate the land we have been blessed with. Our farm has been family owned and operated for many years, this is something we take pride in and hope to pass on to one of our children one day.”
