Gary Roberts Nursery and Summer Crush Vineyard, is operated by Bud Roberts. Both farms have been enrolled in BMPs since their inception 27 years ago. To save money and protect natural resources, the farms do not use pesticides on plant materials and conserve water by reducing the number of times they use water pumps. The farms continuously keep their drainage system clean and up to date to capture and re-use water. Mobile Irrigation labs also continuously monitor their system to test irrigation practices and uniformity.
Additionally, Bud Roberts Nursery stays up to date on Florida Friendly Landscape, which provides plant choices that can be used in the Florida landscape that minimize water and pesticide use by using plants more fit for the native environment.
To Bud, environmental stewardship is a duty that farmers have to their community and to the environment. The native environment is a fragile gift that, if not handled correctly, can be gone as we know it without careful diligence in practicing its conservation and preservation.
