Granberry Farm, Jackson County
Alice and Aaron Granberry own and operate Granberry Farm in Marianna, Florida. Alice Granberry and her husband began researching how to raise beef cattle and started their own farm in the 1940s. The Granberry Farm has implemented BMPs for the past 5 years. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Some of the BMPs that have been implemented include recycling, avoiding over spraying and usage of unnecessary chemicals, and eliminating wasteful practices. In Granberry Farm’s daily operation, they have been mindful to use GPS applications for spraying herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers to reduce fuel consumption. Alice’s grandson helps on the farm during school breaks and the assistance of part-time employees also helps maintain the Granberry Farm at its’ best. Through the usage of GPS systems, they are ensuring efficiency for their land. Alice Granberry is actively involved in the community as a member of the St. Luke Episcopal church and a member of the Altar Guild. She has previously dedicated her time to working with a women’s church group that crotchets and donates shawls and throws to cancer patients undergoing treatments. She has volunteered as a teacher assistant at a Christian school for four years.
