Lambeth Groves, Indian River County

Scott Lambeth and his family own and operate Lambeth Groves in Vero Beach, Florida. The farm was started in 1951 by Scott’s grandfather, George Lambeth. They proudly produce citrus. Mr. Lambeth has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm since their inception in the late 1990’s. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Lambeth Groves use a micro irrigation system that efficiently delivers the precise amount of water, nutrients and other materials to the root zone of the citrus tree. Mr. Lambeth uses an Integrated Pest Management plan to monitor and manage pests with minimal environmental impacts. He has also improved water quality in his grove by installing a series of risers and culverts that allow the water to settle and decrease the amount of nutrients leaching into the soil. Mr. Lambeth is actively involved in his local community, serving as a board member on the Indian River Water Control District and the St. Johns Improvement District. He is a part of the Indian River Citrus League where he chairs the production committee and co-chairs the agriculture fundraising committee. Mr. Lambeth and his family attend First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Lambeth responded, “environmental protection is the only way to keep farming sustainable with the demands that consumers are placing on farmers.”
