Lazy Dollar Ranch, Madison County
Jackie Collins and her family own and operate Lazy Dollar Ranch in Greenville, Florida. Mrs. Collins’ father started the Lazy Dollar brand in the 1950’s and she has been involved with cattle ever since. They proudly produce cattle and hay. Mrs. Collins has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm since 1992. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Lazy Dollar Ranch uses a rotational grazing system to improve pasture longevity, allow for timely utilization of forage and increase the stocking rates. Mrs. Collins provides freshwater sources for the cattle to keep them from disturbing the natural wetlands. Fences have been installed along waterways to keep cattle from standing in water, avoid stream bank erosion and reduce water quality degradation. When asked why she is a farmer who CARES, Collins responded, “in hopes of keeping our environment safe for our children and those to follow.”
