Luke Cattle Company, Okaloosa County
Luke Cattle Company has been raising beef cattle for 15 years and are continuously seeking to improve sustainability by adopting innovative methods and adapting existing practices to better protect natural resources.
Luke Cattle Company has a strong history of implementing BMPs, and each implemented practice has been built upon the last. Examples of these BMPs include soil testing, no till practices and rotational grazing. These practices have helped the operation be more efficient in nutrient management and reduce soil erosion. They apply heavy use area protection to protect and improve water quality by stabilizing ground service.
When asked what environmental stewardship means to Luke Cattle Company, Josh Luke said, “Environmental stewardship means taking active responsibility for the land and natural resources we depend on, ensuring their health and productivity for future generations. As a business that relies heavily on the land, we recognize that the sustainability of our operation is directly tied to the condition of our environment. That's why we place such a strong emphasis on environmental protection. By implementing practices like rotational grazing and establishing heavy use areas, we aim to prevent soil erosion, protect water quality, and promote long-term land health. These efforts are not just good for the environment, they're essential to the long-term viability and integrity of our business.”
