MW Land & Cattle Co. LLC, Madison County
Bryan and Jaime McHargue own and operate MW Land & Cattle Co. LLC in Madison County. It is a beef cow/calf operation, as well as hay production and custom hay baling that started in 2009. They are also a dealer for Anipro/ Xtraformance Feeds, which manufactures high quality mineral and protein supplements for any type of cattle. MW Land & Cattle Co. LLC is a small 5th generation family-run business with all members of the family having an active role in the prosperity of the farm. MW Land & Cattle Co. LLC has implemented BMPs since 2009. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Some of the BMPs that have been implemented include GPS application of all soil amendments and fertilizer and rotational grazing. Rotational grazing utilizes cross fencing or fencing of sensitive areas to allow for animal rotation and protection of waterbodies. These practices ensure that their land will remain productive and viable for future generations. McHargue is involved in his local community as a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, participates in the leadership at the church, and is also a board member of the Madison County Farm Bureau and Cattlemen’s Association. When asked what he enjoys the most about farming, McHargue responded, “Building an operation I can pass on to my children.” McHargue believes it is important to preserve the quality of life for future generations to continue what they have started in agriculture production.
