Revels Farm, Putnam County
Mike Revels has been growing potatoes for more than 30 years. Throughout his farming career, Mike has implemented a diversified approach toward BMPs. To improve and protect the land, Mike practices minimal tillage to maintain soil moisture, plants cover crops to aid in soil restoration and moisture retention and has updated his irrigation network to conserve water use.
Mike has implemented GPS driven fertilizer equipment to target the placement of nutrients and reduce excess nutrient runoff.
Additionally, Mike has partnered with UF/IFAS to participate in on-farm nitrogen timing trials to determine the best time to apply pre-plant fertilizer to maximize efficiency.
Mike is diligent in educating future generations about the importance of environmental stewardship. He has hosted numerous educational field trips on his farm for young people in Putnam County to learn about potato farming and conservation practices.
