Ronald Norris Farm, Columbia County
Ronald Norris Farm has been in operation since Mr. Ronald acquired the farm in 1992. Mr. Ronald’s great grandfather and grandfather have also farmed this land prior. Corn, chiwapa millet, grass seed, hay and cattle are all grown on this operation. Ronald farms in Columbia County and implements a conservation program that is highly effective. Through implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the operation Ronald is able to accomplish his goal of leaving the land better than he found it. Some of the most effective BMPs have included the use of soil moisture probes to manage water with increased accuracy. Less water is now able to be used on the operation to achieve better results and not leach nutrients. The use of a side dress fertilizer applicator capable of placing fertilizer near the row has also let to a decrease in fertilizer use on the farm. Ronald and Barbara are very active member of Christ Central Ministries. Florida Farm Bureau Federation is proud to award a 2021 CARES designation and sign to Ronald and Barbara Norris for their dedication in being outstanding environmental stewards.
