Schobert Family Farm, Lafayette County

Rudolph Schobert and his family own and operate Schobert Family Farm. Mr. Schobert purchased the farm in 1995 and proudly produces poultry. Mr. Schobert has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm since the late 1990s. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Schobert Family Farm uses litter created by the chickens as a source of fertilizer on the land. Litter not used on the farm is sold to other companies. This fertilizer contains the primary nutrients, secondary nutrients and micronutrients needed to grow plants. Mr. Schobert also monitors the water usage on the farm to ensure that water is applied accurately and is not wasted. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Schobert responded, “so that there is something left for our children.”
