Shamrock Sod, Dixie County
Shamrock Sod in Dixie County has been in operation for 23 years and has implemented BMPs since day one. Wayne-O, his wife Karen and daughter Kelsey VanAernam are dedicated to maintaining sustainable and efficient farming practices through their participation in the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services BMP programs. They sell Bermuda sod to an installation company that plants it on roadways. Sod is a powerful tool as it acts as a natural barrier against soil erosion, helps replenish natural resources, aids in air quality control and heat reduction. Additionally, Shamrock Sod prioritizes soil health by practicing responsible irrigation, collecting soil samples from each field before ordering fertilizer, and practicing crop rotation by cutting hay from the sod fields. Mr. VanAernam says that BMPs are the foundation of their operation. They continuously implement these practices to produce the healthiest, most sustainable, sod possible
