Siehler Farms, Putnam County

Teddy Siehler and his family own and operate Siehler Farms in Pomona Park, Florida. The farm was started in the mid 1950’s by his father, Theodore Siehler Sr. They proudly produce cattle and hay. Siehler Farms has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm for decades. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Siehler Farms implements a rotational grazing system that improves pasture longevity, allows for more timely utilization of forage and increases the stocking rates. Mr. Siehler has installed wells to give the cattle a reliable source of drinking water and keep them from disturbing natural wetlands. Soil samples are taken regularly to ensure the proper amount of fertilizer and lime is applied to each pasture. Rotating mineral boxes, proper fence installation, and wetland protection are just a few of the many BMPs practiced at Siehler Farms. Mr. Siehler is actively involved in his local community. He is a member of the Florida Farm Bureau, Florida Cattlemen’s Association and chairman of the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation Board. He also works with the Putnam County fair – helping local 4-H and FFA clubs. In October 2014, Mr. Siehler was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by Florida Farm Bureau Federation. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Mr. Siehler responded, “we need to leave the Earth in a better condition than we found it.”
