Steven Godwin Farms, Santa Rosa County
Steven Godwin owns and operates Steven Godwin Farms in Santa Rosa County. The 4th generation farm originated in 1995 and proudly produces cotton, peanuts, soybeans, carinata, wheat, corn, and raises cattle. Steven Godwin Farms is a family-run business with members of the family having an active role in the prosperity of the farm. Steven Godwin Farms has implemented BMPs for the past 17 years. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Some of the BMPs that have been implemented include strip tilling, no tilling, cover crops, and GPS guided application of variable rate fertilizer. These practices ensure that their land will remain productive and viable for future generations. Godwin is actively involved in his community as a member to the Jay First Baptist Church and as a sponsor for the junior softball, t-ball, and basketball league. He has also been awarded the Conservation Farmer award in 2010, is an active member of the Florida Peanut Producers Association and is a Peanut Leadership Academy Class 6 graduate. When asked what he enjoys most about farming, Godwin simply responded, “The challenge.” Godwin believes it is important to protect our environment because we must leave the land in better shape than we received it for future generations.
