Thomas Beefmasters, Union County

Thomas Beefmasters Farm provides grazing and forage for their cattle as well as several environmental benefits. A few Best Management Practices implemented on the farm include rotational grazing through cross fencing to limit soil erosion and overgrazing, soil testing and strategic drinking water placement for the herd. Additionally, the farm provides water storage and recharge when the state experiences an abundance of rainfall in a short timeframe. They also have a wildlife habitat on their property which is crucial with the rapid reduction in wildlife habitat due to urban sprawl. Derick and Christy are continuously learning from and working with other producers to ensure they are using the newest and best techniques for cattle ranching. At Thomas Beefmasters, they believe the best way to make the farm sustainable is to be a good steward of the land. Best Management Practices accomplish both environmental and economic sustainability.
