Tropic Traditions, Inc.

James Fleming has been cultivating his tropical horticulture business since the mid-1980s. He expanded into the Alachua County area in 1993. Currently, Fleming has over 125 acres and produces a variety of ornamental plants, trees, palms, and shrubs.

Fleming has implemented a variety of different Best Management Practices to measure the health of his plants and protect the native environment surrounding his farm.

On his farm, Fleming spot sprays his plants to reduce the use of pesticides and scatters native yaupon hollies to promote the growth of ladybugs, a natural pest remover. He also installed a tailwater recovery pond that conserves approximately 24,000 gallons of water per day by capturing storm water runoff and reusing it for irrigation.

In regards to leadership, Fleming currently serves on the Alachua County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and the Florida Farm Bureau Environmental Horticulture Committee. He was also the director of the Florida Natural Gas Association from 1992-1993.

The Florida Farm Bureau Federation is honored to award a 2022 CARES designation and sign to James Fleming for his continued dedication to being an exemplary environmental steward.
