W. O. Beauchamp Farm Inc., Levy County
Blair and Tammy Beauchamp own and operate W.O. Beauchamp Farm Inc. in Chiefland, FL. Beauchamp’s farm is primarily a cow/calf operation, raising Angus and Charolaise cattle. They also produce seedless watermelons, hay, and produce Bahia grass seed. For the last five years, W.O. Beauchamp Farm Inc. has implemented Best Management Practices (BMPs) on his property. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Some of the BMPs that have been implemented include the use of soil moisture sensors for efficient irrigation, the use of GPS guided equipment to apply all fertilizers, and the use of buffer strips along field edges with no tillage. Beauchamp has also Installed back flow prevention devices on all irrigation wells. These practices ensure that their land will remain productive and viable for future generations. Beauchamp is an active member in his community as a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, the Chiefland Area Men’s Ministry and of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association. Beauchamp was recently appointed to the Levy County Farm Bureau Board while still facilitating weekly College and Career Life groups at his home with his wife. When asked what he enjoys the most about farming, Beauchamp responded, “The satisfaction of seeing a crop grow and be harvested; from beginning to end and being outside with nature. I also enjoy trying to identify our best bulls to breed and produce the best calves for the beef industry.”
