Weaver Cattle LLC, Suwannee County
Kin Weaver and his family own and operate Weaver Cattle LLC in Live Oak, Florida. The farm was established in 1999 by Mr. Weaver and his father. They proudly produce cattle, grass seed and hay. Mr. Weaver has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm since 2007. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Weaver Cattle LLC has taken the initiative to fence off the natural wetlands to prevent the cattle from disturbing these natural areas. GPS is also used to apply the precise amount of herbicide and fertilizer to the pastures. Mr. Weaver uses rotational grazing for his cattle to improve pasture longevity, allow for more timely utilization of forage and increase stocking rates. He also uses well water for the cattle as a reliable source of fresh water. Mr. Weaver is actively involved in his local community. He is part of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association, Florida Association of State Troopers and member of the Suwannee County Quarter Back Club. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Weaver responded, “for our children and grandchildren to come.”
